She spent exactly to the second, 30 minutes inside one of histories most gruesome buildings but I guess she got what she needed for the political stage. It seems to be the week for this as got moved on from the Silver Pagoda on Wednesday because of the Chinese state visit. Oi I paid $6 to visit this, not to be moved on by bulky ill fitted suit types with tell tale bulges under their jackets. Anyhow breakfast was great and the coffee just kept coming.
I had been told that we need to be somewhere at 3pm, no clue as to where but it was a treat from G to me. A treat indeed it was at the Spa she had chosen for us. 3.75 hrs of jacuzzi relax, body scrub, body massage and then full on facial. I am such a lord, loved it and my skin feels rejuvenated and ready for the ravages of the road...
We had a Khmer bbq for dinner, a bit like the rash of Mongolian ones that appeared then disappeared in the UK. The difference being that this was fabulous food and the personal table bbq we had kept us going for over an hour, then my first tuk tuk ride home.
Now this is my first time in SE Asia, some of you may relate to the following some of you may be horrified but it is as it is. There is a code of traffic and of pedestrians. The latter, in order to cross the road one keeps ones pulse at a steady relaxed rate, gathers up the balls of titanium and walks with purpose but not too purposefully in the direction of the opposite side of the single to 8 lane highways.
There is a fluid and almost harmonious effect to the traffic coming towards you, moto's will go round you, cycles will go round you, tuk tuks will go round you. Cars, the ever prevalent Lexus V8 4x4's, Range Rover Sports, trucks, buses will think about going round you, stopping or just carry on. It is as it is. As a pedestrian I feel safe, as a cyclist I am wondering how it will be. Indicators, traffic lights, right and left sides of the road, give way at junctions and anything that I am used to is not required here. Just be brave and purposeful. Imagine that as the motto inside the Highway Code!
